22nd October 2022
This was the third time we have held this event and what a fantastic evening we had this year. It was a complete sell out with 85 people in attendance.
It was fantastic to see that everyone had made an effort to dress for the event, some in uniform, most in formal evening wear and that was just the men! Our lady guests looked fabulous, all dressed up to the nines.
The hall looked splendid and we had nine full tables all decked out in red, white and blue. A special commemorative programme had been printed for the event and I must thank Carole for putting this together for us.
Everyone enjoyed a fantastic meal and all credit to Sam, our caterer, who managed to get all the meals prepared and served from our small kitchen. The staff where extremely attentive and worked very hard all evening.
Several short speeches were made, the most important one “The Immortal Memory” given by Lieutenant Commander Mark Wardle RN (Rtd.)
Entertainment was provided by April Grime, one of our old girl guides, who sang different songs from the shows and films and in the second half things like ‘what shall we do with the drunken sailor’ and ‘Rule Britannia’ that we could all join in with. During the interval a short humorous sketch was acted out relating to how the Battle Of Trafalgar would have been if it had happened in todays health and safety conscious world. Very funny.
Thanks to everyone who helped, our two flower ladies, Pat and Margaret, Gemma and Tilly who worked behind the bar all night plus everyone who helped setting up on Saturday morning.
A special thanks must go to our two sponsors Cormar Carpets and Nu-Life who through their generosity helped us to put this event on.
