Our meeting on 21st January started with Prayers led by Isobel in which we remembered Betty Duckworth who has sadly passed away aged 98 years. She was a kind and loyal friend who had been a Mothers’ Union Member for an amazing 77 years during which she served on the Committee and held the post of Secretary for ten years. A great loss to us all and we shall miss her amazing smile.
We will soon be losing Pat Scott from our Branch as she is moving to Ripon at the end of January to be nearer to her Family. Pat is another example of the friendship, support and loyalty found in our Branch. She was presented with a Swarovski Pen from the Branch and a Certificate celebrating her 30 years as a Mothers’ Union Member. Pat served on the Committee during which time she was Speakers’ Secretary, Press Secretary and the author of many articles for the Church Magazine detailing our activities and meetings. We wish Pat every happiness in her New Home and hope she will return to visit us from time to time.
We were treated to wine and chocolates from Pat, wine from Anne Brown in celebration of her recent 80th Birthday and the most beautiful cake from Isobel Hinchliffe, who wanted to share her good fortune in winning first prize in the Church 100 Club Draw. How lucky are we?!
Following a few announcements from Margaret, the Quiz followed, during which there was much laughter. The winning team were rewarded with boxes of chocolates and everyone agreed it had been a really fun evening. Margaret thanked Brenda Ware for organizing the Quiz and presented her with two ceramic bowls containing Spring Bulbs.
The evening ended with Tea and Cake – delicious!
